Cover taken from the CoM Manga. Very fitting cover, I believe.
Some Things You Can't Escape, affectionately known as Can't Escape, since I have a habit of coming up with really long titles for fics and then have to shorten them when I'm talking about them to people.
Some Things You Can't Escape, affectionately known as Can't Escape, since I have a habit of coming up with really long titles for fics and then have to shorten them when I'm talking about them to people.
Can't Escape was spawned by the idea of meshing my KHverse
with rarmaster's KHverse. First I sent
Pi over there, then I thought it would be rather Vexen-like to escape there,
since he was done working for Xehanort.
(This ended up working in his favor, because Xehanort was going to kill
him otherwise.) My Vexen has since
stayed in rarmaster's universe. He lives
in Castle Oblivion, drives Riku (her Riku) crazy, is one of the few (only)
people who puts up with Joseph and Toby all the time, helps Alpha keep the
Program safe from 37, (despite not being able to actually touch the Program because
Alpha is paranoid) and has even offered to help hack it--though those offers
have been turned down. As for Pi, he's
back in my universe and assists Ienzo as a shopkeeper in Hollow Bastion.
Can’t Escape spent quite a bit of time literally just
tracing different happenings with Joseph, Vexen, and other random replicas in
Castle Oblivion during the Rebellion (6, Thistle, Alpha). This worked really well back when Riku was
off doing other things and Sora was off doing other things. Now that Riku and Namine are in Castle
Oblivion all the time, it’s a little bit harder to have side-stories going on
because the Rebellion is taking up such a huge portion of their lives. All of that content gets posted in rar’s Dead
Inside. There are still occasional blips
that take place alongside the main content, it’s just from a different
character or something that’s going on while Riku happens to be away in Hollow
Bastion, or something like that. (Things
with Vexen, with 6, with Joseph…)
A lot of what gets posted are literal crossovers with both
rar’s charries and my charries.
Characters do end up in both universes.
Though, more often than not, it’s my characters that end up in her universe. This is mostly brought on by the fact my
characters travel more, leaving room for cross-universe trouble. Every time this happens, it’s because
something important is hinging on that travel.
Joseph came to my universe and gave crucial information
about Namine and Riku and gained valuable information about Kairi and
Sora. My Kairi, Namine and Xion got
bounced to rar’s universe and had quite the run-in with Shad. This was important for both Shad and for
Namine. My Axel ran into rar’s Axel and
the two of them had quite a good time messing with people’s brains. Plus, this was important in Toby’s
discovery. My Riku and Namine run into
Shad again, which is crucial to both of their character’s developments. Most recently, rar’s Kairi and Tifa ended up
running into my Kairi and Roxas. This
was important for her Kairi to realize just how important her Sora was to
her.
There are other crossovers yet still planned. I know Riku seeing Riku is something that is
greatly anticipated. But that will have
to wait still yet.
Anyway, Can't Escape essentially chronicles the events that
happen NOT in the main stream of rarmaster's universe. It's the events of Castle Oblivion that don't
make it into Dead Inside. It's what
Joseph decides he's randomly going to do when he's bored. It's what goes on at CO when Riku and Sora
are elsewhere. It's what Sora's Shadow
decides he's doing when he's not pestering Sora. It’s random stuff with 6. It’s what happens when rar’s characters and
my characters mesh together for funsies.
It’s a load of fun.
Yes, Can't Escape has gotten a tad darker since it's
inception, but rarmaster and I both strive to keep it light-hearted. Though, because Larxene L is HORRIBLE and
Sora's Shadow is worse, it's sometimes hard.
Though, Shadow is at least fun to write for (for the most part). At least, when you're writing him, you can
hardly be out of character because he really doesn't have any limits as to what
he won't do so long as it's dark. L is
just annoying and gross, especially when paired with 37. The main reason for this dark tone is that
Dead Inside has gotten a lot darker.
But, there is hope for it to get more lighthearted as things
continue. Just hang on for the
light.
I don't think there's much else to say. Check it out if you haven't read it.
